Their recent podcast “The Uncertain Hour” just won The Society of American Business Editors and Writers award for a brand new season they just launched.
About Sitara Neives
Sitara Nieves is Marketplace’s executive director of On Demand, the first to hold this position. In this role, Sitara leads the creation of dynamic new content aimed at building audiences in the on-demand audio and video space for Marketplace, and oversees a growing on-demand team charged with creating successful podcasts and video. Sitara previously served as the interim executive producer of Marketplace, an 18-month role she took on to provide shop-wide editorial leadership during Marketplace’s strategic growth planning. In that role, she oversaw all editorial operations, including Marketplace’s suite of radio shows and daily and enterprise reporting, along with digital, podcasts and video.Before that, Sitara was the senior producer and showrunner of Marketplace’s flagship show with Kai Ryssdal for four years, overseeing the creation of new series and projects, and 20% audience growth for the program. Sitara also worked on the Emmy-winning series “Big Sky, Big Money”, a PBS FRONTLINE documentary about money in politics, produced in partnership with Marketplace. Before coming to Marketplace, Sitara was part of the launch team for The Takeaway, a 4-hour morning drive-time show at WNYC, produced in partnership with The New York Times and the BBC. Her last role at The Takeaway was as senior producer of dayside and digital, though along the way she served as line producer, newscaster and field producer for the show. And before that, Sitara was a multimedia producer at The Economist, where she helped launch podcasts and videos (and did some occasional writing as well). She’s taught audio storytelling at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism and has freelanced as a reporter and producer for a number of radio, digital and print outlets.
